To celebrate the end of SATs , Year 6 pupils celebrated with a movie and Icecream!
Harrison’s Ices came to LSPA to help them celebrate and enjoy an ice cream outside! A wonderful afternoon was had by all!!
Mrs Smith and the Year 6 team are so proud of our amazing Year 6 pupils! Their attitude, determination, positivity and resilience throughout this week has been fantastic to see! These tests do not show your amazing personality or the wonderful skills you have… but you sure did smash them and we couldn’t be prouder of you all!! ⭐️
This week, the Year 6 children enjoyed a thought-provoking session as they took part in a class debate exploring the question: Who is responsible for looking after the environment?
The children shared a range of ideas, considering the roles of individuals, companies and governments. They demonstrated fantastic speaking and listening skills, respectfully challenging each others’ viewpoints and supporting their own arguments with clear reasoning.
Year 6 celebrated Founders’ day with a wonderful service at St Margaret’s Church in the afternoon!
Pupils shared the Stanford legacy, our vision and ethos of Stanford and how we use our 5Cs each and every day! As part of their English work, Barley class wrote a class poem about Founders’ day and our legacy!
We also had some wonderful piano pieces performed by Stanford pupils, showcasing their wonderful, musical talents! Thank you Mrs Brady for supporting our pupils with these pieces!
Lead by our Head pupils and Rev Matt, they performed these pieces, along with the wonderful and reflective poem to Governors, community members and the Stanford Trust!

As part of our Hook Day we looked at relief sculptures, and then used this technique to make our own using memories from our time spent at Stanford School as inspiration. After looking at the artwork “ Little Triptych Wall 1960” by Louise Nevelson we then created our own memory box sculpture using an array of different materials.
I’ve enjoyed making this abstract art memory box sculpture, I’m really pleased how it’s turned out
This zig zag card represents Big Ben when we went to London, and the colour green is the nature area.
I’ve created some writing patterns to represent our English lessons

We just wanted to say how incredibly proud we are of all of you. You have worked so hard this year and shown such determination, resilience and positivity. SATs week is nearly here, but remember — you are ready for this!
Over the last few months, you have learned so much and we have seen just how much progress you have made. The SATs are simply a chance to show what you can do, and we know you will all try your very best — that is all anyone can ask for.
This weekend, make sure you relax, have fun and enjoy yourselves. Spend time with your family, play outside, watch a film, read a book or do something that makes you smile. A calm and chilled weekend is exactly what you need.
On Sunday night, try to have an early night so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for Monday morning. A good breakfast and a big smile will help too!
Most importantly, please do not worry about SATs. They do not measure how funny, kind, creative, sporty, thoughtful or amazing you are. You are already brilliant, and nothing will change that.
We believe in every single one of you.
From
Mrs Smith and Year 6 Team!

The creativity on display was absolutely incredible—so many wonderfully imaginative and beautifully designed entries. A huge well done to all the winners in each class, your creations were simply amazing!
Honestly, every single egg looked egg-ceptional—you should all be so proud. 🌟👏

What a fantastic disco for our Key Stage 2 children! 🎉 Fuelled with hot dogs, sweets and juice, the evening was full of energy!
We saw some amazing moves on the dance floor – it was brilliant to see everyone having so much fun! 💃🕺
What a wonderful afternoon at our Year 6 Wellness Retreat with parents at Laceby Stanford 🌿✨
It was fantastic to showcase our beautiful new Tipi, which created the perfect calming space for a range of wellbeing activities. From relaxing yoga sessions to thoughtful commentary cards, the afternoon was filled with opportunities to pause, reflect, and connect.
A special thank you to Zowie from Compass GO for delivering such an inspiring session on gratitude. The children (and adults!) really valued learning about the importance of wellbeing and taking time to appreciate the positives in our lives.
Moments like these remind us how important it is to nurture both mind and body 💚
On Tuesday some of our KS2 pupils represented Laceby Stanford at the annual cross country competition at Weelsby Woods. There were over 1200 competitors! We had several top 10 and top 20 finishers in the races which was amazing for our first time competing in this event! Every single pupil did us proud and showed commitment and determination in all of their races. We are very proud of them all!!
A huge thank you to all our staff who supported our pupils!
An amazing opportunity for the pupils!🏆🤩🏃♀️🏃♂️
On Friday, pupils in Barley class joined in with Red Nose Day to raise vital funds for Comic Relief! 💴
Pupils in Year 6had a lovely time at our workshop with the Wellspring Catering team, creating Eid biscuits as part of our interfaith celebrations 🌙✨
Thank you to Paul and the Wellspring team for sharing their knowledge and guiding us through the process — we learned so much and really enjoyed the experience together.
A great way to connect and celebrate 💛
Barley Class have had a fantastic Science Week learning about how birds build their nests. Our experiment consisted of molding a nest out of clay, using materials from outside to show how we could protect eggs. We sketched our designs in our books and made predictions as to whether our nests would survive strong wind and rain.
We collected our materials from outside, choosing what we thought would help make our rests more durable, insulated and sturdy. We then used clay to mold the base for our nests before filling it with our materials. We used twigs, leaves, pipe cleaners, wool, grass, feathers and flowers inside our nests.
We then used a fan and tested each different setting to see how well our nests would hold their ‘eggs’ before watering the nests to see how they fared in the rain.
All 10 nests passed the test and proved their durability and the children had a fantastic time both making and testing their creations!

A huge thank you to our fantastic Pupil Voice team for leading and delivering the pupil interview panel for our principal candidates.
You represented our school brilliantly, asking thoughtful questions with confidence and maturity. We are incredibly proud of the professionalism and insight you showed throughout the process—your voices truly matter! 👏
Barley had a fantastic World Book day, immersing themselves in a variety of books and exciting stories! The range of costumes have been fantastic too!
Pupils focused on a short story in English where they had to use a range of descriptive language to describe a UFO that will then be used to generate an image of their UFO using AI. Following this on pupils designed and then created their own aliens linked to their story! 👽
Year 6 had a fantastic PE lesson working on gymnastics and balances 🤸♀️
The children focused on strength, control and communication while creating a range of individual and partner balances. It was lovely to see confidence growing and such positive teamwork throughout the lesson. A brilliant effort all round!
Year 6 had a fantastic visit to Stanford Library t 📚
We explored a range of books linked to our topic on medicine and disease, uncovering some fascinating facts and sparking lots of great discussions. The children were really engaged and excited to bring several books back to school to continue their learning.
A big thank you to Mrs Wink for welcoming us and making the library such an interesting and inspiring place to visit — we can’t wait to share what we’ve learned with her at the end of the spring term!
In Science, Year 6 planned and conducted an investigation to find out how exercise affected their heart rates💪🏼
They measured their resting heart rate, and then measured it again after taking part in some moderate and vigorous intensity exercise to see what different it had made to the heart rate.
They also worked out their recovery rates! What a fun and interactive science lesson!
Year 6 pupils had a fantastic hook day, learning about medicine and disease in prehistoric and Ancient Egyptian times. We also learnt about the history of medicine and what germs are and how to prevent them from spreading! We took part in different Roman circuits as exercise prevents illness. Using our Art skills, we created our own plague masks and started to investigate germs!
We look forward to the rest of this exciting topic!
Our Year 6 pupils worked brilliantly as a team to plan, design and create their own Christmas game stalls for the Christmas Fair – and they were a huge success!
The stalls were extremely popular, and pupils loved taking part. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, teamwork, problem-solving and excellent entrepreneurial skills on display.
We were incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm and independence Year 6 showed throughout the project. Well done, Year 6 – you should be very proud! 🌟👏
Our Year 6 pupils have been busy this half term taking part in Virgin Money’s “Make £5 Grow” project, learning valuable skills in teamwork, creativity and financial responsibility. Working together, the children designed, created and marketed their own festive products, including beautifully crafted art frames and delicious reindeer pops.
Their hard work certainly paid off, with both products proving popular at our Christmas events and helping the pupils make an impressive profit. Well done to Year 6 for showing such initiative, collaboration and Christmas spirit!
On Monday, our pupils were treated to an inspiring assembly led by one of our amazing ex-pupils, Aniyah, alongside Governor Mrs Robinson. Aniyah spoke to the children about her Buddy Dog, Spirit, and shared her journey to raise awareness of sight loss, the incredible work of Guide Dogs UK, and the life-changing impact a Guide or Buddy Dog can have.
Before Spirit came into her life just 8 weeks ago, Aniyah barely left the house and found daily life incredibly challenging. She had perfect vision until October 2030, but since then has been sadly losing her sight, something that has had a huge impact on her everyday life.
This week she returned to her primary school to share her story and show the pupils what a wonderfully positive difference Spirit has made.
We are so proud of Aniyah and incredibly grateful she came back to inspire our pupils. 🐾💛
Our Year 6 pupils have been working with Humber Taiko this week, building on the fantastic skills they developed last year. They’ve been learning exciting new rhythms, exploring how to work together as a team, and even creating their own original Taiko pieces!
To finish their session, they confidently performed their compositions to their peers — showing incredible rhythm, focus, and energy.
A huge thank you to Humber Taiko for another inspiring experience! 👏
Our Year 6 pupils have been wonderfully engaged this week working alongside our Foundation Stage children in Buttercup class.
They’ve been sharing their learning environment, helping with activities, and showing great leadership through mentoring and coaching. It’s been wonderful to see our oldest pupils supporting our youngest learners with such kindness, patience, and enthusiasm!
We’re so proud of how our Year 6 mentors are modelling positive relationships and teamwork — and it’s clear that our Foundation Stage pupils are loving every minute of it too! 💛
Recently in Barley class, we took a creative twist on the classic Odyssey tale by exploring the infamous encounter with the Cyclops, Polyphemus. We used a freeze frame activity to bring the tension, action, and drama of the chapter to life!
In groups, we captured the most intense moments in still images – from Odysseus' clever deception with the "Nobody" trick, to the nerve-wracking escape as they blind the Cyclops, and the final, heart-pounding moment when Odysseus reveals his true name in a bold act of pride. 🏹🔥

A big thank you to Humberside Fire and Rescue for delivering an engaging and informative Fire Safety Talk to our Year 5 and 6 pupils this week. The session was full of valuable insights and important reminders that helped reinforce essential fire safety knowledge. Our pupils came away better informed and more aware of how to stay safe. 🔥👏
As part of our Electricity unit, Year 6 pupils have been investigating if different components affect the brightness of a bulb. Pupils planned their investigation, looking carefully at the variables and how to ensure to make it a fair test. Pupils then used different components to test the brightness of a bulb… great work Barley class!

A huge welcome to our newly appointed Head Pupils who received the most votes across the school after the Head Pupil Assembly on Friday.

They have already delved into their responsibilities and are looking forward to representing Stanford school and the pupils this year!!

The year 6 pupils were incredible on Friday as they delivered their speeches to run for head pupil. A large number of pupils had nominated themselves for this responsibility and we will find out this week which oupils were lucky enough to receive the most votes.

It was the perfect day to be running the vote as it was near International Day of Democracy. We are so proud of all of the pupils and were so impressed by the thought and effort that had gone into all of the speeches and other preparations. Pupil voice is so important to us, as a Rights Respecting school. Good luck to all of you and well done!
This term we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks.
For our Hook Day, we discovered where the legend of the Minotaur and The Labyrinth came from, different Greek Gods and Goddesses, Ancient Greek art and architecture and discussed how the Ancient Greeks have influenced the modern world.
We are really excited to learn more about the Ancient Greeks - we will keep you posted on our Barley Class Blog!
